I’ve been doing a lot of thinking.
I mean… I know a lot of people say that, but I really have. I watched a documentary & my gears have been going ever since.
I looked around my bedroom & ugh – I have a lot of stuff. Like…really. I feel kind of like a hoarder after watching that. Not really…let’s not start making assumptions here – I’m just saying…
There’s a lot of stuff sitting around, that I don’t touch. I don’t use. I don’t give a flying you know what about. There are at least…at minimum… two boxes in my closet I could throw in the dumpster & not miss any of their contents; perhaps it may have some sentimental value?
What is that really though?
I’m not saying the sentimental things I own are not important to me. The reason responsible for it’s importance is not the the belonging itself – It’s important because of the feeling it provides me.
After more thought I started wondering, what feelings do my other possessions provide me?
That’s a good question, isn’t it? I’ve actually been trying to come up with a good answer. I suppose…there are possessions I own that make me feel good that I wouldn’t be willing to part with; but that list is not long.
And in the end, it’s still…just stuff.
All these thoughts spinning around my head have begun to wrap around this Simplicity idea.
“Simplicity is not the goal. It is the by-product of a good idea & modest expectations.” –Paul Rand
I want to live simple. I want to educate myself to be more self-sufficient. I want to have a small house, and a big garden. I want to make a 10 year plan with the end result being debt free, in a tiny house.
Just to get any assumptions out of the way again, no…I do not want to be a hermit.
At this point…I’m intrigued.
Love…love…. Love it

That kind of reminds me of yesterday on the Today show where someone actually found the formula for happiness and it was low expectations. So if you don’t expect much and you get something more, happiness.

Absolutely! That falls right in line with this whole idea. Seems pretty obvious, doesn’t it?

Seems to explain my bitterness. I have always have high expectations for everything and I’m constantly let down.

Yeah. I started getting annoyed with all The Stuff before I left too. I don’t even have that much, comparatively, but I hated the importance it all seemed to play in the game. I read somewhere that the hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life. It’s so easy to make it complex. I dig your 10 year plan. Now, make it happen 😉

Yesssss…you speak my language!! STUFF is complicated. I’m thinking 10 years is too long…I might need to rethink this plan.

That’s so true. I have been annoyed with the idea of “too much stuff” for quite a while now and have recently started doing something about it. My hubby and I are actually planning our tiny house right now! This weekend we bagged up about 11 bags of clothes! And I won’t miss one single piece of it. I still I have more clothes to get rid of before it comes time to live in our tiny house, but I definitely feel successful about this weekends efforts. 🙂
Congrats on your 10 year plan!

I LOVE hearing there are others with the same ideas, concepts and plans in the works. I’m thinking I may need to rethink this into a 5 year plan though… 🙂

I love this. My mom is a compulsive shopper/hoarder. I hate it. I had to wrestle a box of broken ass toys away from her a couple days ago out on the front lawn. She hides stuff in my house, like lots of stuff. It’s totally destroyed our relationship and she just can’t stop. She has no room for her “treasures” so she sneaks them into other peoples homes…either as totally unwanted “gifts” or she just flat out stuffs them in your cabinets when you aren’t looking. It’s insane.
I am a compulsive thrower outer because of it. “Stuff” is suffocating. Caring about a bunch of useless crap is insane.
Gotta go… Gonna go clean out my closet.

I seriously just busted a gut reading your comment…haha. I don’t know what I would do if my mother was hiding “treasures” around my house!! Bless your soul.
I bet that closet is looking mighty organized now!
