The Minnesota Vikings will be traveling to St. Louis to take on the Rams at Noon on Sunday for their first regular season match-up.
Sam Bradford is out for another NFL Season after he tore his left ACL…same injury, new year. The St. Louis Ram’s will be counting on backup QB, Shaun Hill who’s 13-13 as an NFL starter but hasn’t started in an NFL game since 2010. His career ratio is 41 touchdowns to 23 interceptions…so, it could be worse? Ram’s head coach, Jeff Fisher says, “Shaun’s our guy. We’ve brought him here, he’s got experience, we’ve got all the confidence in the world in him.”
Matt Cassel will start for the Minnesota Viking’s and while he only started 6 games in the 2013 season…He led the team in passing yards – completing 60.2 percent of pass attempts for 1,807 yards and 11 touchdowns. Along with many other coaching shifts – the Viking’s brought on former Cincinnati Brown’s offensive coordinator, Norv Turner…who wanted the Browns to sign Matt Cassel in 2013. Interesting, eh?
The Rams were reasonably decent at home last season winning 5 out of their 7 total games at home…. while Minnesota hasn’t won a true road game since Week 16 of the 2012 season.
Home field advantage has it’s perks…
Minnesota Viking’s, Adrian Peterson loves opening day. Last year he opened his first run against the Detroit Lions with a 78 yard touchdown. St Louis Ram’s are hoping to count on defensive leader, James Laurinaitis to help stop Adrian. Laurinaitis has not played any preseason games due to an ankle injury – but he will need to be on top of his game if they want to stop the Viking’s run game.
Other than Sam Bradford’s injury, the Rams also have a few other key players not playing.
The Minnesota Vikings injuries shouldn’t play much of a role this week.
If I was a betting gal, I’d put my dollars on the Minnesota Vikings to come out victorious on week one of the 2014 NFL Season. The Vikings have made notable, significant changes in their roster & coaching staff. I believe their confidence is where it needs to be while the St. Louis Rams have a few uncertainties that may hinder their game.
But we shall see…
Happy Opening 2014 Football Sunday, Everyone!Originally Posted at Onside Chick
