Could Be Worse [Friday Fictioneers]

I knew this place would be a dump.

Be grateful there’s a place at all… sleep out in the rain if you want.

It’s not my fault we’re in this godawful situation, but her tone always implies otherwise.

I rested my unwashed head and couldn’t help but wonder if the overripe stench was me or this questionable pillow. Fighting it, my eyes shifted in the direction of my mother; watching her body sob silently, I drifted.

I love you, kid.

I heard it, I’m just not sure if it was real or if I was dreaming.

Goodnight.

Jack & Jill: A Love Story [Friday Fictioneers]

The song that played their love story 70 years ago, filled the air. She knew he had something to do with it, at least she liked to think so.

Oh, Jack… there you go again.

In a park not far away, the music continued to pull her heart in the right direction.  She found it & stopped; each beautiful instrument reminding her of old memories. In her imagination they were dancing on the grass, his arms tight around her waist; 18 again.

When it concluded, she cried & slowly meandered home with a smile on her face.

True love never disappears.

A Year’s Worth of Properly Ridiculous

One year ago I signed up for WordPress & published my first post 6 days later.

In this span of time, I’ve managed to convince 683 people to keep an eye on it. I watched that number go up and down quite a bit – depending on what was being ranted, raved or praised. I’ve monitored the traffic behind it all, almost to a fault.

I’ve watched my writing progress & change. I’ve explored different styles; wrote my very first fiction & followed with a few more.  I attempted to make sense of crazy trials, news stories, missing planes, made my fear of Ebola known & told a whole-lotta people to STFU.

I struggled through my ridiculous anxiety, and learned how to curb it. Later in the year, listened to an audio book that rocked my socks off & told everyone to just go out and follow your own arrow. I Attempted to explain resting bitch face … In turn, I was kinda bitchy about smoking & littering.

I’ve documented my son growing up, his continuing crush on the Tooth Fairy … & when he tried to plunge the toilet with a towel. Yeah, It Happened. I’m so happy it’s written down & saved for his future girlfriends.

Since I’m obviously a professional, I shared the wealth of knowledge and told you how to raise your kids also.

I made my love for football well known. Wrote a few open letters to Jared Allen & Brett Favre. Stuck up for Adrian Peterson & Ray Rice, called out ignorant football fans & directly told the entire NFL to get it together.

I turned thirty and intentionally have not changed my About Me page to reflect that; Properly Ridiculous will forever be, pushing 30. It’s been a good year & next will be better.

Thank you, 683 people who validate my lack of a filter.

Observation Vs. Judgement

photo prompt Plant in Van Flower

I sit up for the first time & fully soak in my surroundings.

The sun shines above me.

For a little flower – here will do just fine.

I like the shade & protection; safety.

How lucky I am to have been provided this space to call mine.

Thank you, Mother [Nature].

Time passes and occasionally

I see appalled eyes shift in my direction with dismay.

More time judging & Less time observing.

Why can’t they see what I see?

Time passes and occasionally

I see intrigued eyes look with wonder; some even appreciate me.

More time observing & Less time judging.

Picturesque

I took one last glimpse of the photo I have admired since age six. My grandmother stood on this very balcony before me, dressed in white and someone captured pure elegance. I never met her, but I love her.

Behind the autumn leaves are patches of bright blue sky. I can’t help but think she had something to do with this picturesque day.

Was she as nervous as I?

I look to my right; my father who inherited Her kind eyes provides me his reassuring wink. Forward we move & approach the stairs – at the bottom, my forever waits.
