About Me

I’m a thirty-something who found a passion for words and started a blog.

Properly Ridiculous was created in February of 2014 with no direction beyond, I am going to write. A year later I quit my career of almost seven years, again, with little direction beyond, I am going to write.

There is a book in the works and what started out as a memoir entitled: Awkward suddenly turned into a short novel when I decided it would be more fun to keep the readers guessing what’s real and what’s not. (ie: I’ve done some things, and I’d rather not openly admit to them).

I have a husband and a son, and no – for the 3,452 time – we do not plan on having any more. Our three person operation works well for us, mostly because the child in the equation is old enough to make his own breakfast and we’ve reclaimed our Saturday morning sleep.

A few of my favorite things include (but are not limited to) high fives, coherent people, stand up comedy, babies, pretending Mindy Kahling and I are BFF…

…Making people question my sarcasm, hiking in the woods, pretending to be a professional Instagram photographer and those soft sugar cookies with the delicious colorful frosting and sprinkles.

I am an avid fan of the NFL. Particularly, the Minnesota Vikings (SKOL!) so my Sundays usually look something like this:

I’m loud, sometimes offensive and not the most politically correct.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. YOU SON IS ADORABLE! (I’m not throwing shade at your husband by not mentioning him, but I don’t like complimenting other people’s husbands because it feels weird, but like, I know you know I saw him in that picture with your son which prompted the adorable comment so I just wanted to parenthetically address why I didn’t acknowledge his appearance, but I did your son’s.)

    1. Thank You! I also think he is pretty darn handsome – but, I’m biased – so it’s always lovely to hear it from other people. Also, I appreciate the non-comment on my husband’s appearance…I’m pretty insecure & I may have instantly thought you were making a pass at him, through me.

    1. You made my day.

I cannot wait to start working on this.

I know I already thanked you in your (extremely well written) acceptance, but I want to reiterate how honored I feel. You’re wonderful & one of my favorite people I’ve come across since starting this blogging journey. I wasn’t aware that we started our blogs about the exact same time until I read your post – & now look at us go… unstoppable.

      Thanks for being you.

      1. You are absolutely too kind! I can’t thank you enough for your support and encouraging words, as they have made my days brighter and given me more inspiration to keep going. I greatly look up to you as a woman and a writer, and I’m so grateful we’ve found each other! I’m looking forward to your post! 🙂

    1. It’s always nice to know you’re not alone. 🙂 You, Sir…are completely correct. Every 5 or 6 years – it’s fun to be us. Until we are due again, I’ll just wear my purple proudly & not take anything to seriously.

  3. Go Vikings! I just say that to be polite because I’m not a fan and if you think it’s easy being a Minnesotan and not liking the Vikings, think again! Hope some of your Vikings love spills over to the Twins and Gophers 🙂

    1. Being born & raised in Minnesota… I feel it’s okay to say this…
The whole “Minnesota Nice” thing is a sham & I personally do not blame you for not liking them.
………….If I wasn’t raised to cheer for the men in purple, I bet I’d be a happier person.

….But thank you! GO VIKINGS. (And I’ll give ya the Twins…)
      [go badgers…shh].

    1. Thank you for stopping by! 🙂 It’s not easy being a purple fish, swimming upstream in the sea of green, but like I say every offseason, “I feel good about this year”. I can absolutely appreciate the fanship you cheeseheads have though – Viking fans are wishy/washy at best. Nice to meet you also!

  4. Hey Jen! I’m new to the world of blogging and stumbled across your blog because I searched the word “ridiculous”….Can I maybe marry you? I love the way you write. You’re really funny. Plus you cuss like a sailor and I’m down with that. Do you have any advice for someone just starting out? Specifically how to get readers/followers?

    1. I am so sorry it took me so long to get back to you – I’m going to shoot ya an email and we can connect. I’d love to chat and writing and blogging. 🙂
